Preparing Content for your Website
Inspiration
Please let us know about websites that you love and how you want your site to look. We will make it look professional but you are the client so it’s important that you help us understand how you want the site to look.
Site Structure
Please advise us what pages you would like the website to have. We normally recommend a home page, services page, projects (portfolio type page) and a contact us page.
Logo and Style Guide
We need full size logo files so that we can ensure that your logo looks great on your website. If you have a style guide for your business then we can also follow that when developing the website to ensure consistent branding across all media.
Images
Your website needs good quality original images that show people how your business can help them. This could be photos of your equipment, staff, products or projects that you have worked on. These need to be large, high resolution images that are going to look good on the website. If you don’t have anything suitable then we recommend that you get a professional photographer to assist you. We can also provide a photography service if required.
Please make sure that the photos are named with the name of the project, service or product that they are connected to to ensure that we put the images with the correct text.
Content – Text
To be found on Google and other search engines you want to ensure that you have good, clear, informative content that describes your products and services. You want at least 300 words per subject. For example, if your business offers three main services then each service would benefit from at least 300 words describing the service, your experience and why people should choose your business. If you have multiple products, each product should have around 300 words to describe the product.
When writing your content you should think about the keywords that you want people to find your business with. For example, if I was running a web design business in Perth then I would be thinking of web design and Perth as important keywords. I would then make sure that I include my keywords in the description of my service.
When writing your content, you want to make sure you include the keywords that you want to be found on but focus on writing useful, informative content that will help your potential clients. Always write with the client in mind, don’t focus on trying to make your content good for Google.
Just remember, you can always change and update the content in the future so don’t stress about it too much.
If you are not comfortable writing content for your website then ask us about our copy-writing service. We can also do research based copy-writing. For example, a recent client asked us to provide a researched and referenced text detailing the advantages of Spirulina as a dietary supplement. We produced a 500 word text detailing the benefits of the supplement, with 15 references to scientific research on the subject.
